Provincial General Hospital- Badulla is a compassionate provider of patient-centered health services with an emphasis on tertiary-level specialty care, primarily for residents of Uva province. Our hospital provides a wide variety of specialized services across almost all health-care disciplines and collaborates with a wide range of partners to address the needs of the culturally diverse community and to build a strong, integrated system for regional health-care delivery.
As the premier healthcare provider (1541 bedded) in the region, we continued to serve our patients with kindhearted healthcare of the highest quality and we had the opportunity to serve more than 750,000 patients including over 90000 in-patients with a dedicated staff of 2222.
Our roots are deep
Our origin dates back to an old Colonial Hospital, which was established in 1891 and Provincial General Hospital – Badulla is one of the longest serving hospitals in the country. In year 2000 it was incorporated to the Line Ministry
Pride of Uva
Uva Province has large amount of historical incidents from Ravana Era. Several News sources identifies that tha King Ravana had been governed the country based from Badulla. Ravana Waterfalls, Stripura Curve Tunnel Complex, Ravana Cave, Hakgala Mountain, Diurumwela Temple are the related places with Ravana stories.
The provincial history records an 1818 uprising (the Third Kandyan War) against the British colonial government which had been controlling the formally independent Udarata (Sinhalese: Up-Country), of which Uva was a province.
